The Real Independents
WHAT WE STAND FOR...
Stand against rapacious overdevelopment which destroys our amenity, our green space and our air quality.
Roll back the Military Road Planning Study. Fight for better outcomes for St Leonards/Crows Nest.
Stop the high rise apartments taking over the major corridors from St Leonards to North Sydney and from Crows Nest to Neutral Bay.
PROTECT BERRYS BAY
Protect and enhance Berrys Bay.
Work for immediate transfer of the remaining public lands to Council control.
Continue opposition to the Floating Dry Dock development
Pursue compliance to ensure delivery of the public jetty required under the original Noakes' consent
Stop our community assets from being sold off.
COMMITTED TO REAL SUSTAINABILITY
Environmental and financial sustainability at the centre of all decisions. Commitment to active transport; cycling and pedestrian infrastructure; expanding car share; electric vehicle and charging projects.
Bring back transparency in Council decision making and public access to documents. Bring back fiscal responsibility and especially deal with the $34m Council debt (equal to one year's operational budget).
Keep Rates low - no more special rate rises.
INCREASE PUBLIC OPEN & GREEN SPACE
Open access to parks and the foreshore; protect and expand public open space; deliver the expanded Hume Street Park and Parraween Street Park; stop the decline in tree canopy.
Stop the permanent loss of parkland at Cammeray related to the WHL maintenance sheds being placed above ground (they will be underground with parkland on top at Rozelle).
CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE WESTERN HARBOUR TUNNEL/NORTHERN BEACHES LINK (WHTBL)
The WHTBL will have devastating environmental impacts on us all. There is no demonstrated need or business case. Continue to lobby the State Government to abandon the projects and commit to sustainable public transport. We are the only councillors that have ALWAYS stood up against this project.
Stop the use of Berry St as the conduit onto all the harbour crossings; stop the failure of traffic intersections each peak hour in and near to the North Sydney CBD (as predicted by the WHL EIS); stop the various street closures right across the municipality proposed by the WHL project.
PROTECT HERITAGE AND FOSTER CULTURE
Prioritise the arts and culture. Stronger heritage and conservation protection.
FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
Return to being a leading Council in recognising first nations people. Reinstate and increase funding to the Aboriginal Heritage Office. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
ROADS, RATES AND RUBBISH
Keep rates low and services high. Lead the State in diversion from landfill. Innovative solutions to domestic and commercial food and green waste.
Upgrade public amenities in our parks and bushland reserves - better, cleaner toilet blocks; more benches; shade cover where needed; more rubbish bins in our parks and at the exit and entry points for bush walking trails.
